This holiday season South Florida educators have joy in our hearts because efforts to improve the lives of some of our most vulnerable young people are bearing wonderful fruit: Our schools are performing better than ever.
I am particularly proud of the work that Principal Wallace Aristide and his team are doing at Miami Northwestern High School. For the first time in the school’s history, it received an A.
Florida International University is very involved at Miami Northwestern through our Education Effect program. I can say from firsthand knowledge that the A was hard-earned, and it required the commitment of many in our community, from Superintendent Alberto Carvalho to the teachers and counselors at the school and private partners.
Clearly, we are far from done, but we are on the right track to inspiring all of our students to work harder and reach higher. We are raising expectations and making sure that the idea of going to college becomes part of the culture. This A is a triumph for everyone in South Florida because the success of Miami Northwestern students is our success.
