2 killed when car hits utility pole in Pompano Beach

Two men died after their 2011 Hyundai jumped a curb and smashed into a utility pole, ejecting one and crushing another.

Driver Mateus Detoledo Slovinski, 19, and passenger Frank Defilippo, 54, died in Tuesday night’s crash in the 500 block of Copans Road.

The speeding car lost control at a curve in the road and ran over a median in the eastbound lanes before striking a utility pole. The driver was ejected and Pompano Beach firefighters removed the passenger but could not save his life.

The two were not wearing seat belts, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
