A youth coach was arrested Saturday after police say he sexually assaulted a child.

Paul Johnson, 49, turned himself in to police Saturday and was charged with sexual battery.

According to Miami Gardens police, the child went to Pepper Park at 1355 NW 135th St. in North Miami for practice.

The practice was canceled because of bad weather. Johnson drove her home as he always did, according to a news release.

When they arrived at her Miami Gardens home, he went upstairs to use the bathroom. When he came out he assaulted her, the release says.

Her mother then came home and saw the attack. Johnson left and turned himself in the next day.

It was not clear Sunday, how old the child is, what sports Johnson coached and who he worked for.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami Gardens Police Department at 305-474-6473.
