Beer: Samuel Adams Winter Lager
Alcohol: 5.6 percent by volume
Price: About $9 a six-pack of 12-ounce bottles at Publix
Story: This malt-forward lager is brewed with a blend of Indonesian and Vietnamese cinnamon as well as orange peel and ginger, giving it a flavor that's in tune with the holiday season. It's not a spice bomb like other winter beers, and it's not heavy, despite its deep ruby-brown color. Bocks like Samuel Adams Winter Lager were traditionally brewed by monks in preparation for Lenten fasting.
Pairing: The smoky, earthy flavors of grilled or roasted lamb match nicely with the malted wheat and subtle spice profile of Winter Lager. Try it with the lamb chop entree at Buena Vista Bistro, 4582 NE Second Ave., Miami.
