The Dec. 3 article Our new oil bounty should have been prefaced with, “If Big Oil has its way,” before the article continued with “Fracking will make the U.S. the world’s biggest oil producer.” Fracking operations deplete millions of gallons of potable water, cause fractures deep into our earth’s structure and make some people’s faucets flame.
Fracking operations result in significant CO2 emissions, and the excess CO2 in our atmosphere is warming our planet.
The “this is good for us” spin on this story was not worthy of the Herald’s front page. Why do you report that fracking is inevitable? Increased wind, sun and geothermal power sources are cost-effective and reduce rather than increase CO2 into our atmosphere. Isn’t it better we pay forward to the next generation and produce electricity from clean energy resources?
