In an apparent accident, a North Miami Beach man shot and killed another man while watching the New Orleans Saints play the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.

Brandon Kyle Lapeikis and Christian Salazar, two 19-year-olds who had drifted apart since high school but had recently started hanging out again, were watching the game inside a bedroom at Lapeikis’ North Miami Beach home in the company of two other friends.

All four were smoking marijuana.

According to the friends, Lapeikis left the room and returned shortly with a gun. He racked the firearm, pointed it at Salazar’s head, said “Game over” and pulled the trigger.

Salazar was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in extremely grave condition. He died at 10:05 Tuesday morning.

Lapeikis later told authorities he did not know the gun was loaded and admitted to pulling the trigger.

Police charged him with second-degree murder. The investigation is ongoing.
