I was glad to read the Nov. 27 article on listening to books while exercising. But as a life-long bicyclist, I was disappointed to read the writer’s endorsement of listening while cycling outdoors. The Weston mother of three who distracts herself while cycling outside could be so distracted as to miss a car horn or even another bike’s bell. She might end going to a hospital instead of back home.
Listening to CDs and watching DVDs while peddling an indoor exercycle makes sense. But on a bike, even on a quiet street or bike path, it makes even more sense to keep one’s ears open for warnings, including a child’s yell.
