Opa-locka hosts free turkey giveaway for Thanksgiving

Special to the Miami Herald

Opa-locka residents in need of a turkey for Thanksgiving lined up for a free bird and collard greens on Monday, Nov. 25, in the east parking lot of historic City Hall, 777 Sharazad Blvd. Over 1,200 turkeys were given away, and after Opa-locka residents received their turkeys, Miami Gardens residents were invited to claim what was left. The annual event was hosted by Commissioner Timothy Holmes and backed by generous donors including area businesses.
