Driver arrested in Hallandale Beach hit-run that killed 12-year-old girl

A Hallandale Beach man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run earlier this month that killed a 12-year-old girl as she crossed the street near a park.

Hallandale Beach police announced Tuesday that Fernando G. Mayers, 25, turned himself in at about 1:30 p.m.

He faces charges including: vehicular homicide; crash involving death/leaving the scene, driving with a revoked license and driving with a revoked license involving a death.

Shania Jackson was crossing in the 600 block of Foster Road when she was hit at about 12:15 p.m. Nov. 18.

Shania was critically injured and died Sunday. Friends and family gathered Monday night near Foster Park for a vigil.
