One Direction’s Liam Payne faces Olympic gold medalist and TNA wrestler Kurt Angle in the ring

During the historic 1D Day global streaming event live from Los Angeles and viewed by millions worldwide, One Direction’s Liam Payne fulfilled a childhood dream by entering the pro wrestling ring against Olympic gold medalist and TNA Impact Wrestling superstar Kurt Angle.

Shocking Angle with his in-ring agility and high-flying moves, Payne -- outfitted in lucha libre ring gear complete with mask -- cleverly orchestrated the victory. Following the match, Angle presented Payne with the TNA championship belt.

One Direction is an English-Irish pop boy band based in London, consisting of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. They signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after being formed and finishing third in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition “The X Factor” in 2010. The band was propelled to international success by social media.

TNA Impact Wrestling is big in England.
