If you watched Sunday night's American Music Awards on ABC, then you may have noticed Miami's high presence on the show. Heres why:
1. The popular awards show's host was Miami rapper Pitbull, who identified himself as "Mr. 305" during the AMAs opening segment.
2. Pitbull was hosting as part of the AMAs celebration of the 25th anniversary of Miami Beach resident Gloria Estefan's appearance on the show as the first Latin performer.
3. Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez, a former Miami Beach resident and minority owner of the Miami Dolphins, brought down the house with her tribute to the Cuban-born queen of salsa, Celia Cruz, whose funeral
was held in Miami.
4. Winning group Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performed live via satellite from AmericanAirlines Arena in downtown Miami and also went political, mentioning murdered Miami-Dade teen Trayvon Martin in their
acceptance speech. "Due to the fact that we are in Florida tonight accepting this award, I want to acknowledge Trayvon Martin and the hundreds and hundreds of kids who are dying each year due to racial profiling and
the violence that follows," Macklemore said.
