Elderly woman watching TV in wheelchair is shot through door of her Liberty City home

A 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair was shot at home while she was watching TV, Miami police said Friday.

She was taken to Ryder Trauma Center in serious condition.

She was wounded when someone came to her door at the Liberty Square housing complex in the 1200 block of Northwest 64th Street and began shooting into the home, bullets striking her several times, police said.

“I was sitting right there and I just got hit,” Alamariee Viel told Miami Herald news partner CBS4.

A second woman in the home, 26-year-old granddaughter of the older woman, also was hit by gunfire. Police said the older woman was not the intended target.

Neighbors said the shooting may have been triggered by a love triangle.
