Beer: Founders Breakfast Stout
Style: Imperial stout with coffee and chocolate
Alcohol: 8.3 percent by volume
Price: About $11 a four-pack of 12-ounce bottles at Whole Foods
Story: Breakfast Stout is the kind of motor oil-thick, high-octane brew that burly, bearded men drink in the dead of winter, but even in balmy South Florida, this Michigan beer is worth seeking out. Bittersweet chocolate and Kona and Sumatra coffee beans add layer upon layer of robust, roasted aromas and flavors.
Pairing: A sipper like Breakfast Stout is like a cup of coffee with dessert. Try it with a fat slice of German chocolate cake from Ice Box Cafe, 1855 Purdy Ave., Miami Beach. The coconut flakes in the icing bring out a hint of vanilla in the beer.
