Beer of the Week: Left Hand Milk Stout

Beer: Left Hand Milk Stout

Style: Sweet stout

Alcohol: 6 percent by volume

Price: About $9 a six-pack at Publix

Story: Left Hand Milk Stout won a gold medal in October at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival. Left Hand, a small, Colorado brewery, adds lactose sugar to the beer, giving it a slightly sweet and creamy finish. That kiss of sweetness plays off the stout’s roasted malts like froth on a cappuccino.

Pairing: Stouts pair equally well with grilled or roasted dishes and desserts. Left Hand Milk Stout’s sweet edge works best with sugary flavors, and it’s outstanding with warm pumpkin maple cheesecake at Oak Tavern in Miami’s Design District.
