Even with Obamacare I cannot afford health insurance. Here’s why:
I am 60 and unemployed after a year looking for work, so I do not receive any tax credits via the marketplace.
Since I have an IRA and a small bank account, I do not qualify for Medicaid. Hence, I have to choose between healthcare for my many ailments or food and shelter until I somehow find work or end up on government subsidies when I deplete my resources.
I’m in need of much medical help, but am not ready to lose my home, so I carefully pick which ailments are affordably treatable. I hope I survive until I reach 65.
I’m sure there are many others like me that are falling through this crack, but you never read about us.
