When President John F. Kennedy visited South Florida in the early 1960’s, I took my son who was then in kindergarten at Bay Harbor Elementary school to Surfside Boulevard in Surfside to see him.
The school brought all of its students to watch the president’s car pass by. When he saw all of the children waiting to see him, the president, who was in an open car, had his driver slow down and he stood up, so that all of the children could see him.
It is something that I and my son never forgot.
