Obama sandbagged by insurers?

Did President Obama lie when he claimed that if you liked your health plan you could keep it or were we sandbagged by the insurance industry? The industry could have amended or added a rider incorporating the requirements of the Affordable Care Act to the policies of the folks who received letters cancelling their policies.

Seems to me they saw this as an opportunity to raise premiums and try to destroy the ACA. Insurance companies raised prices and/or cancelled insurance all the time before there ever was the ACA.

It’s one of the reasons the ACA was passed in the first place.
