St. Thomas Aquinas clobbers Miami Springs

Special to the Miami Herald

Still stinging from a regular-season finale loss to Deerfield Beach last week, St. Thomas Aquinas took out its frustration on Miami Springs on Friday night as the host Raiders scored early and often en route to the lopsided in a 56-0 win over the Golden Hawks in a Class 7A regional quarterfinal game.

Running back Madre London, a Michigan State commitment, led the way for the defending state champion Raiders with 98 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns in one half of work as Aquinas built a 42-0 halftime lead before coach Rocco Casullo emptied his bench in a running clock second half

Miami Springs, making its first postseason appearance in 18 years, finished its season 7-4. Aquinas (9-2) will host Plantation next week in a rematch of a district showdown a few weeks ago.

“We had a lot of guys step up for us, including Corey Long [three catches, 57 yards] and all of our running backs as well,” Casullo said.
