Support the arts in Broward

As an ardent supporter of nonprofit organizations, I appreciated your recent special tabloid section on philanthropy.

It is important to spotlight the stories that inspire us to make a difference.

Missing from the story, Clicking for a cause, is an initiative to attract and encourage new donors currently under way in Broward County.

Business for the Arts Broward is facilitating a $100,000 matching grant from the Community Foundation of Broward to support artistic projects by nonprofit organizations.

There are 17 noteworthy projects at Through Dec. 15, any donations made by new donors to those projects will be matched two-to-one up to $10,000 by the Community Foundation of Broward. That means a donation as small as $5 by a new donor will result in $15 for the project because of the match. Nov. 15 is National Philanthropy Day. Readers can visit the site and contribute.

  • New Dade County Youth Fair

As a lifelong resident of Miami-Dade, a business leader and a member of the Florida International University President’s Council, I would like to thank our Miami-Dade commissioners and Mayor Carlos Gimenez for their reaffirming support to provide additional county-owned land for FIU adjacent to its Tamiami Campus and to find a new, suitable location for the youth fair.

  • Healthcare issues

Re the article Doctors declining to accept Obamacare plans came at an interesting time for me. I knew it wouldn't be easy carrying insurance purchased through the exchange, as everything comes with a price, but I had no idea it would be so difficult to find a doctor that accepts said insurance.
