New York City will be raising the minimum age to buy tobacco products and electronic cigarettes from 18 to 21, joining the city of Needham, Mass. New York would become the biggest city to prohibit the sale of tobacco products and e-cigs to persons under the age of 21. Canton, Mass. is expected to raise the minimum age to 21 in January, Hawaii is expected to pass a vote to increase the minimum age in December and New Jersey may likely raise the minimum age as well.
The minimum age to buy tobacco products and e-cigs in most states is 18. Florida should also pass a law to increase the minimum age in order to crack down on underage use of these products.
