Nova, Cypress Bay cruise into state swimming and diving championships

The Nova boys’ and Cypress Bay girls’ teams entered next week’s state swimming and diving championships on a high note by winning the Region 4-4A championships Tuesday afternoon at Ransom Everglades.

Nova edged Palmetto by 26 points for the boys’ title, highlighted by a victory in the 400-freestyle relay and Anton Kuzjomkin’s championship in the 50 freestyle.

Emma Lincoln led Cypress Bay’s girls winning the 100 and 200 free and helping the Lightning win the 200-free relay.

Archbishop McCarthy continued its early season dominance on Tuesday as it defeated an overmatched Dillard 16-0.

Angelica Mazzacco netted three goals in the blowout win. Taylor Shore, Yari Bradfield, Carissa Sanchez, Abby Ribas and Alexa Rivera scored two goals apiece. The Mavericks weren’t done scoring as Toni Mendoza. Colleen Becker and Adrianna Cabeza added goals of their own.

The Mavericks improved to 4-0.
