As a native of Miami and lifelong Dolphins fan, I am glad to see that there was some response to the team controversy over bullying. Suspending Richie Incognito is a start. Miami deserves a great team, but those of us who long for a rekindling of the early ’70s football magic will be disappointed unless owner Stephen Ross, coach Joe Philbin and, especially, General Manager Jeff Ireland put character at the top of the list in next April’s draft.
Perhaps we will make the playoffs this year. Perhaps we are on the right track in some ways. However, we will never be great until the team is free from this vile and insidious behavior. It is time for the team’s leaders to show Miami that they care and that they want to build a team that represents all of Miami’s diverse, vibrant, electric, crazy, flashy, ethnic, sun-baked citizens.
There is no other reasonable path to our next, long overdue, Super Bowl trophy.
