Death of man seen pushing wheelchair on I-95 under investigation

The death of a man seen pushing a wheelchair along the shoulder of Interstate 95 in Broward County on Sunday is under investigation.

The man, identified as William Randolph Lockard, 55, of Lauderhill was spotted by drivers around 8 a.m. on the southbound shoulder of the busy highway just south of the Atlantic Boulevard exit.

“We received calls from motorists about the man,” said FHP spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky. FHP troopers and fire rescue personnel were dispatched.

Witnesses told FHP at some point they saw the man sit down on the chair, where he apparently died of an unknown medical condition.

“When the paramedics arrived he had already died or died shortly after,” Wysocky said.

The man was not struck by a vehicle. He may have been homeless, Wysocky said.

Since the man died on the highway, the agency is investigating the death.
