When the Dolphins traded for Bryant McKinnie on Monday, it became a matter of when -- not if -- he would start for the team.
That when appears to be now.
McKinnie is expected to start at left tackle Sunday against the Patriots, The Miami Herald has learned. Struggling Tyson Clabo heads to the bench.
If all goes to plan, Jonathan Martin will shift over to right tackle to make room for McKinnie, the 12th-year lineman out of the University of Miami.
The move comes a week after Clabo allowed his seventh and eighth sack of the season, the last of which resulting in a fumble that essentially cost the Dolphins the game.
As a team, Miami has surrendered 26 sacks this fall, a pace that would shatter the franchise's single-season record, should it continue.
McKinnie practiced all week with the team, but it was evident that his balky knee -- which has been drained on multiple occasions -- was still an impediment.
