Defense continues to rule for Southridge with win over Palmetto

Special to the Miami Herald

Through stifling defense and two touchdowns from Freddie Pinder, the Spartans (4-4, 2-1 District 16-8A) blanked the Panthers (2-6, 0-4).

The Spartans defense was able to hold the Panthers to just 115 yards of total offense, which is something that coach Don McKnight said has been carrying the team all year.

“We’ve been doing it all year. We’re a young team with the defense playing fast and strong,” McKnight said.

The Spartans defense forced four interceptions on quarterback Desean Cannon, who made his first start of the season. They also held him to just 85 yards passing.

Sophomore quarterback Drakar Jerry threw for 141 yards and three touchdowns, two of which went to Pinder, who had four receptions for 53 yards.
