Malik Atkins, Booker T. Washington storm to victory over Norland

Booker T. Washington’s future will be in good hands with Malik Atkins at quarterback. Atkins completed 8 of 11 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, and carried the ball six times for 65 yards and a rushing touchdown, fueling the Tornadoes (8-0) past Norland at Traz Powell Stadium.

Booker T. Washington’s well-oiled machine was at it again, stifling Norland’s offense, preventing the Vikings from passing midfield on multiple possessions and capitalizing on short punts and a short field to load up the scoreboard.

The Tornadoes’ most impressive series came midway through the third quarter on a two play, 99-yard drive where Atkins connected on passes of 44 and 56 yards after Norland scored its first touchdown and pinned Booker T. at its 1-yard line on the ensuing kickoff. Atkins, a junior who also had six carries for 65 yards, started in place of U.S. Army All-American and Florida State commitment Treon Harris. Harris and several other Booker T. starters, including UM oral commitment Demetrius Jackson, rested because of injuries.

Norland dual-threat star Khalil Murat led the Vikings (2-6) with 19 carries for 165 yards, and went 6 of 12 passing for 67 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
