Adult film star Mary Carey had a rough time after her flight arrived in Miami Wednesday, but the Celebrity Rehab veteran didn’t let that keep her from her final destination of Fantasy Fest.

Carey has top billing for the ABC (Anything But Clothes) party Wednesday night at Bare Assets, the self-proclaimed “Southern Most Strip Club in the USA.” But earlier in the day, Miami-Dade police said, she wouldn’t budge from her American Airlines flight from Los Angeles after landing at Miami International Airport.

What happened next — and was first reported by celebrity gossip site TMZ — is in dispute.

“Apparently she refused to get off the flight and they escorted her off,” said Det. Roy Rutland, a Miami-Dade police spokesman.

But Carey, who spoke to the Miami Herald by phone from Key West, said she just couldn’t wake up after taking a higher dose of meds to help her sleep than she would normally take on a plane — and washing the pills down with a glass of wine.

“Obviously I passed out; I couldn’t wake up,” she said, acknowledging that she should have avoided the alcohol. “No police came and got me off the plane.”

She said Ron Jeremy, a fellow adult film personality who was on the plane heading to Fantasy Fest with her, finally roused her from her emergency exit row seat and left the plane with her.

“Maybe the flight attendant thought I was struggling to walk and looked out of it,” she said. Carey, who grew up in South Florida, said airline staff told her she would not be allowed to board her connecting flight to Key West — a decision she said she did not understand, given her frequent flyer status and two-hour layover. A spokeswoman for American Airlines said the airline doesn’t comment on passengers.

Louie C. Rock, who owns the club and promoted the ABC event, said that’s when he got a call from police asking if he was “the person in charge of Mary Carey.” After learning she would not be allowed to fly to Key West, Rock sent someone to pick her up and drive her south.

“I’ve been in the entertainment business for 20 years in Florida and this is the first time I dealt with Mary Carey,” said Rock, who is also throwing another party featuring Ron Jeremy at his other venue, Coasters. “And she came in to Fantasy Fest 2013 with a full bang. You know it’s crazy down here.”

Carey said she figures someone at MIA figured out who she and Jeremy were and gave TMZ a heads up. In addition to her adult film work, she’s drawn headlines over the years for unsuccessful political campaigns (including a high-profile run for governor of California in 2003) and an appearance on the reality show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

Late Wednesday, Carey said she was “ready to have fun in Key West.”

She added: “It was quite an ordeal though.”
