Leonard Pitts outdid himself in his Oct. 15 column, GOP’s new star Dr. Ben Carson a slave to insensitive hyperbole. As he attacks Carson as being a betrayer to his race, Pitts’ vitriol flows from his pen like acid from a leaking battery. To him, blacks should continually be angry, victimized, underprivileged, far-left sycophants who never stop protesting.
Black conservatives have the right to express their own ideology, even if it conflicts with Pitts’ imaginary mainstream of black discontent. Laud the courage of notables such as Clarence Thomas, Condoleezza Rice and a host of other black conservatives who do not color their opinions with the racial bias that Pitts conveys.
