Miami Hurricanes’ Ladarius Gunter honored

Miami Hurricanes junior Ladarius Gunter was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Specialist of the Week on Monday — his second ACC Player of the Week award and UM’s seventh of the season.

Gunter scored a touchdown for the second consecutive game in Miami’s 27-23 win Thursday at North Carolina. The touchdown was made possible by teammate Artie Burns’ blocked field goal. The ball landed in Gunter’s arm, and he raced down the sideline for the 67-yard score.

Gunter became the first Hurricane to return a blocked field goal for a touchdown since Devin Hester did it against the Florida Gators in the 2004 Chick-fil-A-Bowl.

Earlier this month, Gunter was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week after returning an interception for a touchdown in Miami’s win over Georgia Tech on Oct. 5.

BCS No. 7 Miami (6-0, 2-0) will go for its first 7-0 start since the 2003 season when it hosts Wake Forest (4-3, 2-2) at noon Saturday at Sun Life Stadium. Fewer than 7,000 tickets remain, according to UM.

Miami’s Nov. 2 game at BCS No. 2 Florida State (6-0) will kick off at 8 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ABC, the ACC announced Monday. It will be Miami’s eighth consecutive game on an ESPN network or broadband station.
