Kelly Benson leads Pace to victory against Edison

Special to the Miami Herald

Monsignor Pace overcame a sluggish first quarter before eventually pulling away to the lopsided win over Edison in a District 8-4A contest at Pace High School.

With the victory, Booker T. Washington officially locked up first place in the district. Pace (5-2, 1-1) will now square off at Gulliver on Nov. 1 to determine the runner-up playoff spot. Edison fell to 1-6, 0-2.

The Spartans were led by quarterback Kelly Benson (10 of 18, 196 yards, three touchdowns).

Deion Balfour had two rushing touchdowns, and Christian Shephard had an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown.
