With the recent installation of the large LED billboard (with changing displays every eight seconds) on the side of Watson Island’s Children’s Museum, I dread to think about what other atrocities are in store.
Will the new Perez Art Museum start sporting an oversized billboard advertising beer, or will the Frost Museum of Science and Technology be adorned with a flashing telecom ad? Lest you think it can’t happen, think again.
With the allowance of the sleazy-looking Children’s Museum billboard, the genie is out of the bottle. Electronic billboards (and giant murals, as well) are blights on our cityscape and allowing them to be placed on museums is shameful.
