Special to the Miami Herald

Columbus (3-4, 2-1 District 14-8A) scored first on an Ivan Smith run before defensive lineman Nick Garcia jumped in front of a screen pass and scored on a 65-yard interception return in Thursday’s win.

Oshton Armstrong — who led all rushers with 99 yards on nine carries — and Ernest Donaldson, scored on 10- and 5-yard runs for insurance.

Alex Levy had two sacks and Peter Delatour had one sack for the Explorers. Manuel Gallo and Nick McBeath each had fumble recoveries.

South Miami (3-4, 1-2) had just two penalties in the loss. The Explores averaged 10.6 rushing yards per carry and held the Cobras to 3.2 rushing yards per carry. Clarence Brown tallied 108 yards on 15 offensive touches, and Jamal Brown had two interceptions in the loss.
