The renovation of the Miami Beach Convention Center is necessary. However, the present plan that Michael Gongora and Mayor Matti Bower approved is too large and costly. It is over $1.2 billion in construction that includes an 800-room hotel, which will create congested traffic and a large ongoing public expense. Luckily for the residents, the appellate court struck it down.
Miami Beach voters will decide on Nov. 5, when they vote for a new mayor and three commissioners, how their money will be spent and how it will affect their quality of life.
