Coral reef girls’ golf capture district golf tournament


Coral Reef won the District 24-3A girls’ golf tournament Tuesday afternoon at Palmetto Golf and Country Club.

Lauren Eustace followed up her recent GMAC title by winning the individual crown shooting an 89 to edge runner-up and teammate Leia Schwartz’s 93.

In the boys’ tournament played Monday at Redland Golf and Country Club, Palmetto secured the team title with a score of 315 that was 11 strokes better than runner-up Coral Reef. Coral Gables sophomore Thomas Nieves shot a 74 to win the individual title edging Coral Reef’s Zack Granoff’s 76.

Lourdes defeated St. Brendan in straight sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-9.

The Bobcats were ever really being challenged by the Sabres as they cruised to an easy win.

Annie Ortiz led the way for Lourdes with 29 assists, eight kills, five digs and three aces. Michele Marenus registered 10 kills, 13 digs and an ace while Cristina Melendez added 10 digs, six points and two aces.

After another dominant performance, Lourdes improves to 18-1.

    Dade Christian boys’ track relay teams qualifiy for states

    The Dade Christian boys’ track 4x100 relay team will head to the State Championship for its second year in a row. Abigael Neus, Sam Mompremier, Jeanmaxon Adrien, and Cameron Floyd. Darwin Abreu qualified fourth overall in the mile. The 4x400 relay team, Torrian Wallace, Jovyn Pierre, Andrew Dodds, and Jonathan Gill needed to finish fourth out of 16 teams and run under a 3:42 to qualify for states. Freshman Jonathan Gill lead the team to a time of 3:36, awarding them fourth place to also qualify them for states.
