Re Douglas Hanks’ Oct. 12 article, Feds to Everglades airboat operators: Stay off the waters. Furloughed personnel are prohibited from working without pay unless threats to human life or property are so near at hand that they demand an immediate response.
Normal airboat operations clearly don’t threaten lives or property.
Instead of writing to local businesses using agency letterhead, furloughed federal employees should keep their credentials at home and write to their congressmen using their own stationary.
Furloughed means stop working.
