The new Regional Team Tennis Challenges are BYOT (bring your own team) events, which means prior participation in a local tennis league is not required. USTA members and non-members can participate in the events open to teams of kids age 8 to 18. The events are presented by Wilson Racquet Sports, and USTA members receive a $10 discount on registration.
Southwest Florida Regional Team Tennis Challenge division winners: 10U Advance: Corky Crocodiles out of Sanchez Casal Academy, Naples. 14U Intermediate: Sanchez Casal Academy, Naples. 16U Intermediate: Miami Falcons.
“The partnership with USTA Florida Team Tennis Challenges is a great fit for Wilson Racquet Sports and our shared vision to attract more youth participation,” said Erika Offerdahl, promotions manager of Wilson Racquet Sports. "”hese events give all skill levels the opportunity to compete and experience team competition in a fun format.”
Upcoming Regional Team Tennis Challenge events:
Oct. 12-13: Southeast Florida Regional Team Tennis Challenge
The Swim & Racquet Center, Boca Raton
Nov. 9-10: Northeast Florida Regional Team Tennis Challenge
Omni Amelia Island Plantation, Amelia Island
Nov. 16: Ten and Under Team Tennis Challenge
Tamiami Park, Miami
(Open to 10 and Under teams from Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.)
Age groups for the events are 10-under, 12-under, 14-under, 16-under and 18-under, with novice, intermediate and advanced skill divisions within each age group, except 10u, which will only include an advanced green dot ball skill division. Players must be a minimum of 8-years-old to participate in the 10-under division. Eight-and-under and 10-under age advanced division teams will play with the green-dot ball on a full-size court. Players age 10 or younger must play in their natural age division. The green-dot ball is used in the older other novice age divisions.
Novice divisions will offer gender-neutral teams (example: a team can enter a novice division with three boys and one girl, or a team can include all of one gender). Players are allowed to ‘play up’ a maximum of one age division, except for participants age 10-under. Teams can participate in multiple USTA Florida Regional Team Tennis Challenge events, but with limited space in some draws, priority will be given to teams within the home regions.
