Miami’s Top 5: What you should know Friday

1. In the mood for hockey? The under-new-ownership Florida Panthers play their NHL home opener Friday night in Sunrise against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

2. Sweat with Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels as she hosts Sweat USA Friday through Sunday at the Miami Beach Convention Center. She’ll lead classes, do a meet-and-greet and mingle at a VIP cocktail party.

3. A mystery witness permitted to use a false name is expected to testify in the trial of two men accused in the 2007 killing of South Florida businessman Gus Boulis. Prosecutors wouldn't say much more about the witness scheduled to take the stand Friday, but photographers aren't being permitted to take the witness’ picture.

4. The first post-shutdown payday is Friday for federal workers as their cash squeeze is about to get real. The shutdown is costing South Florida about $7 million a day in personal income, according to a new estimate by Miami-Dade’s official economist.

5. It’s cooler and drier, with temperatures expected to dip a tad over the weekend. You may even want to open the windows at night, with lows expected in the mid- to high-60s.
