Searching for its first win on the season, West Broward picked the perfect time to play its best game of the season on homecoming night.
Led by the running of quarterback Connor DOrio and running back Dejay Ingleton, the Bobcats earned their first win of the season with a 20-13 in overtime over Hollywood Hills in a nondistrict matchup at Flanagan High on Thursday.
DOrio finished the game with 32 rushing yards and two scores on the ground for West Broward (1-6). Ingleton led the Bobcats with 79 rushing yards.
The guys stayed in there and fought tonight, West Broward first-year coach Eric Gudger said. Im really proud of them.
With the first possession in overtime on second down, DOrio took the snap from center and rolled hard to his right then cut back up field to put the Bobcats in the lead.
When I saw that hole open up, I just thought about the W. DOrio said. I saw it and I took it.
But, there was still work to do for the Bobcats to do on defense.
On Hollywood Hills possession in overtime, the Spartans (2-4) continued to run the ball.
On second down from the 8-yard line, West Broward defensive lineman Kevin Lazo recovered Shaddrick Lowerys fumble to seal the win.
Lowery rushed for 37 yards and two scores for Hollywood Hills.
We had to win this game, DOrio said. We had a lot of big plays and our D-line played a [great] game.
Those big plays included three fumble recoveries on defense.
The win was the Bobcats first win since defeating Piper 20-19 in their final game of the 2012 season.
For a change we set the tempo, Gudger said. The guys stuck together.
