Two judges to be honored at Miami event

Two stars of South Florida’s legal firmament — Senior U.S. District Judge William Hoeveler and Miami-Dade County Judge Steven Leifman — will be honored Thursday night.

Transition, Inc., which provides rehabilitation services to ex-criminal offenders, will recognize Hoeveler with its Lifetime Achievement Award and Leifman with its Community Service Award.

The latter award is being named in honor of the late Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Maxine Cohen Lando.

Hoeveler and Leifman will be feted at a judicial reception from 6 to 9 pm at Temple Israel, 137 N.E. 19th St., Miami. The cost is $50 per person. Co-chairing the reception are former state Sen. Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach, and former U.S. Attorney Roberto Martinez.
