Pine Crest girls’ volleyball upsets Calvary Christian

 

The Pine Crest girls’ volleyball team pulled off an upset against Calvary Christian on Tuesday 24-26, 20-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-12.

The Panthers (9-7) rallied after falling in the first two sets of the match, storming back to take the next three sets and pull off the upset. Calvary (13-4) entered the contest ranked 59th in the state by MaxPreps.com.

Sara Duque led the way for Pine Crest with 31 digs and eight aces. Lindsay Foreman registered 20 kills, nine digs, six points, three blocks and three aces for the Eagles.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Archbishop McCarthy and Ransom Everglades played a match that ended with both squads shooting a 150 and tying for the win. St. Thomas Aquinas finished third after shooting a team 161.

Ransom Everglades and Archbishop McCarthy played an evenly matched game throughout that even their two top scores ended the match in a tie.

Katya Eavarahona of Archbishop McCarthy and Carolina Garrett of Ransom Everglades both shot a game-low 1-under-par 35 to catapult their teams to the top spot. Madison Riordan led the way for St. Thomas Aquinas with a team-low 38.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

St. Thomas Aquinas dominated in a meet with crosstown rivals, besting Cypress Bay, Cooper City, Coral Glades, Hallandale, Hollywood Hills, Plantation and South Broward.

Aleck Dominguez headlined the meet, finishing first in 17 minutes 27 seconds. Tony Cruz ran a 17:52 and Gabriel Darosa ran a 17:57 to round out the top three for the Raiders.

The Raiders are now 22-0 on the season.
