Breaking away with recent tradition, Norwegian Cruise Line has announced the name of its newest ships: Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss.
Previously, the pair had been referred to as the “Breakaway Plus” ships; they follow Norwegian Breakaway, which launched this year, and Norwegian Getaway, which will start sailing from Miami in February. The names Dreamaway and Sailaway were both contenders for the new ships, but didn’t make the final cut.
Earlier this month, the Miami-based cruise operator announced a list of names that were being considered for the two new 4,200-passenger ships, to be delivered in fall 2015 and spring 2017. Through Facebook, Norwegian asked fans around the world to choose their favorites from the following: Bliss, Discovery, Dreamaway, Escape, Journey, Muse, Passion, Sailaway, Treasure and Triton.
The contest drew more than 100,000 votes. Everyone who voted was entered into a drawing to win a trip to the first ship’s inaugural activities in 2015.
