Norwegian Cruise Lines’ next two ships will be named the Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Escape, based on 100,000 votes cast by fans, the line announced Tuesday.
The ships, scheduled to be delivered in 2015 and 2017, will be similar to but slightly larger than the Norwegian Breakaway, which debuted in New York in April, and the Norwegian Getaway, which will be delivered in January and sail out of Miami. Called Breakaway-Plus ships, they will be the largest in the line’s fleet at approximately 163,000 gross tons and 4,200 passengers.
Norwegian has not yet announced the home ports of the Breakaway-Plus ships, nor said whether — like the Breakaway and Getaway — they will have decor themed to their home ports.
The cruise line invited fans in United States, Canada (excluding Quebec), Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom to vote on 10 names in conjunction with a contest. Bliss and Escape were the top vote-getters.
