Hurricanes cornerback Ladarius Gunter and tailback Duke Johnson were named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week and Specialist of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday.
Johnson, a sophomore, has earned six ACC Player of the Week honors, but this was his first for special teams.
Gunter’s player of the week honor was his first. He recorded seven tackles against Georgia Tech, including one for a loss, and returned an interception for a touchdown in UM’s 45-30 victory.
Gunter is one of three Hurricanes tied for the team lead with two interceptions.
Johnson finished with a game-high 325 all-purpose yards against the Yellow Jackets, his second career 300-yard game. He had four kickoff returns for 114 yards and 184 yards in rushing. He leads the Canes with 572 rushing yards on 84 carries, a 6.8-yards-per-carry average, and has 954 all-purpose yards.
No. 13 Miami (5-0, 1-0) is off this week but returns to the field Oct. 17 in a 7:45 p.m. ESPN game at North Carolina.
