Traffic alert: New ramp on Palmetto Expressway at NW 25th Street delayed from rains

A new northbound ramp from the Palmetto Expressway to Northwest 25th Street, which was scheduled to open Sunday, has been postponed until further notice because of recent heavy rains.

Oscar Gonzalez, a spokesman for the construction project, said the contractor decided to reschedule the opening after lime rock used to build the base of the roadway was saturated without time to dry before being put in the asphalt. New material was also coming in wet.

Gonzalez expects to have an update by mid-week on when the new ramp will be ready for State Road 826 traffic.

When the new ramp opens, drivers will exit a half-mile earlier than they do now. The ramp will clear the way for further construction on the 826-836 interchange reconstruction project, Gonzalez said.

Drivers should call 511 or visit to stay updated on traffic and lane closure information.
