Two dead on Broward roads: Woman hit by car, man ejected as truck flips into ditch

Miami Herald Staff Report

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the deaths of two people on Broward roads: a man who drove off the pavement and landed in a ditch and a woman who walked into oncoming traffic near the airport.

On Friday night in Southwest Ranches, while responding to another call, deputies noticed a rollover crash that left the driver dead. His Toyota pickup had left the 7000 block of U.S. 27 and ended up in a ditch.

Driver Raul Lopez, 69, was ejected and died immediately. He had just spoken to his family and was heading to his Weston home from work, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Also on Friday night, a 32-year-old Davie woman was hit by a car and killed just north of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Kristina Trudell was the passenger in a Hyundai that had pulled over onto the shoulder of the road when she walked into the path of oncoming traffic in the northbound lanes of 3200 block of South Federal Highway, according to BSO. She was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where she died just before midnight Saturday.

The driver of the car that hit Trudell, Laura Thorn, 28, of Boca Raton, remained on the scene for questioning.
