A Monroe County jail inmate with a long Keys rap sheet hung himself and died in his Stock Island cell, according to the Sheriff's Ofifice.
Glenn Breeland Jr., 29, "hung himself with his bed sheet in his cell Friday afternoon. Detention deputies discovered [him] in his cell just after 5 p.m. He had wrapped the sheet around a shelf in the cell and the other end around his neck. He kneeled down on the ground and leaned forward, cutting off his ability to breath," the agency said.
He was in jail on a charge of domestic abuse by strangulation, a felony, after being arrested in Key Largo in May "during which he beat and choked his ex-girlfriend" in Key Largo, agency spokeswoman Becky Herrin said. Detectives Deborah Ryan and John Underwood are investigating Breeland's death
His Keys rap sheet, going back to 2010, includes charges of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, driving under the influence, DUI-personal injury, battery, intent to do violence, grand theft, and another count of domestic violence.
