Undefeated Cardinal Gibbons routs Key West

Special to the Miami Herald

Host Cardinal Gibbons scored 56 consecutive points to rout Key West 63-20 on Friday night in the District 16-5A opener for both teams.

Gibbons (6-0) has a bye week before traveling to Miami’s Traz Powell Stadium Oct. 18 for a crucial district game against Jackson. A Gibbons win in that game would clinch a playoff berth for the Chiefs.

As usual Friday, Gibbons rode the accurate passing of quarterback Peyton Bender. The Washington State recruit completed 18 of 23 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns.

Two of his TD passes went to Louisville recruit George Rushing, one went to Christian Blake.
