Re the Sept. 28 article Newest fear: Predatory tegu lizards: Perhaps people are overlooking and underestimating existing tegu predators. I have a five-acre farm with more than 300 free-range chickens. If tegus love eggs, this is what you could call a tegu magnet. I have seen tegus down the street and believe I may have heard some in the bushes next door, but I’ve never seen a single tegu on my property since the free-ranging peacocks moved in!
Tegus have eggs, too — their Achilles’ heel. Chickens, raccoons, possums and now the voracious and omnivorous peacock may be eating their eggs. Peacocks will certainly eat hatchlings.
Maybe Turkey Point could use some peacock patrols! If so, I know a few people who would donate some.
