Special to the Miami Herald

Mistakes were aplenty in a district contest Friday night between South Plantation (2-2, 1-1) and Piper (1-3, 0-2), but junior quarterback Mike Mele found a way to lead the Paladins to victory.

Mele completed 11 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other side, Piper kept the game close, tying the game on a 29-yard touchdown run by junior running back Travis Liburd late in the third quarter.

Liburd finished the game with 122 yards rushing on 26 carries.

The Bengals could not overcome five interceptions.

Eleven different South Plantation players had a reception or rushed.
