Cypress Bay rebounds with big victory over Everglades

Special to the Miami Herald

After stumbling in its district opener in its first-ever loss to Flanagan last week, Cypress Bay rebounded into early-season playoff contention against up-and-coming Everglades.

Dylan Rupert had a solid showing for the Lightning, rushing for 137 yards and one touchdown, helping Cypress Bay to a 25-13 victory over the host Gators in District 12-8A on Friday.

Cypress Bay (2-1, 1-1) also got a big game from special teams, which accounted for one of the scores on a safety on a high snap on punt formation.

The Gators (3-2, 1-1) were plagued by poor field position, never taking possession beyond their won 20.
